Colourful dresses have dominated in the opening days of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival – see Viola Davis’s joyful yellow Alexander McQueen gown for details – but Anne Hathaway has reminded us that the white dress is a classic for a reason.
Armani Privé has been behind some of the most memorable gowns in the film festival’s history and this year, the brand was behind the custom column gown that Hathaway wore for the screening of Armageddon Time – a new film in which she stars alongside Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jeremy Strong and Oscar Isaac.
Unlike some of the voluminous princess silhouettes we’ve seen at the Palais des Festivals, the actor’s form fitting sequined column gown, with a spliced empire line and trailing train – was exquisitely understated.
As is customary in Cannes, Hathaway added some spectacular jewellery. Her dazzling “Mediterranean Reverie” necklace was from its high jewellery collection, and features a scene-stealing cushion-cut sapphire pendant.
Anne has evidently packed some head-turning looks for her trip. In the hours before her red carpet moment, she soaked up rays on the Riviera wearing a rainbow look from Schiaparelli’s spring/summer 2022 collection. And the previous day, she landed Nice wearing louche suiting with box-fresh trainers. Keep the looks coming, Anne.
