Swan is of Spanish, Scottish, Irish, and English descent. She has an older sister, who also works as a model. Swan attended a Waldorf school. She is also a trained gymnast. Before her modeling and acting career, Swan has worked as a waitress at a restaurant. As she grew up in Hawaii, Swan is very fond of surfing.
Swan used to accompany her mother to the sets as a child. Her debut role was a minor character in Cousins. She was chosen for this role personally by the director, Joel Schumacher. In the following years, Swan appeared in various commercials for Milky Way, Much Music, Macy’s, and Absolute Poker.
As a model, she has also worked for notable brands like Dorinha Jeans Wear, Breathe Activewear, Miss Sixty, Jacqueline Conlor, Diesel, Killah Babe, Kusuiko Jeans, Aritzia, House of Nyla, Thomas Lynch, Bodog, Guess? and Venus Swimwear.

Swan is also an activist, advocating for women’s freedom and equality. She works with charities like the Somaly Mam Foundation, United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets, and Heifer International.
